ENVIRONMENT: GLOBAL PROBLEMS, LOCAL SOLUTIONS
Our school welcomes the etwinning project: ENVIRONMENT: GLOBAL PROBLEMS, LOCAL SOLUTIONS
“Take action!” is the motto of this project and it aims to raise the environmental
awareness of students by undertaking local initiatives related to environmental
protection and sustainability, in order to fight the global problems the world is facing.
AIMS
- To develop citizenship skills and students’ cultural awareness.
- To raise environmental awareness by focusing on the global problems the world is facing and implementing local solutions to fight them.
- To develop ecological education towards the conservation and preservation of nature.
- To provide solutions to real problems related to environmental issues in the school communities and beyond.
- To promote Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL).
- To involve students in collaborative work.
- To promote the use of digital literacy to communicate and access knowledge in the context.
- To improve students’ digital skills by using a variety of web2 tools.
- To encourage the use of the English language to interact with European students and teachers, recognising it as a global language to communicate.
- To provide a social hub where students can practice and improve interpersonal skills such as teamwork, leadership and mindful communication while working in international groups
WORK PROCESS (DECEMBER 2022-MAY 2023)
- The project will be developing from December to April 23.
- Students will be involved in 1 or 2 tasks each month until they finally create their final product.
- There will be one online teachers’ meeting per month to elaborate on issues like student collaboration, possible new ideas and twinspace management.
- several online meetings for students will take place according to schools’ availability.
- Students will work in mixed nationalities groups to enhance the value of tolerance through collaboration and communication. (online, via chat or through web2 apps)EXPECTED RESULTS
- To Improve students’ English skills.
- To suggest solutions to real problems.
- To elaborate vocabulary related to Environmental Education.
- To engage the school communities and society on terms with environmental consciousness. To raise students’ awareness about global environmental problems by:
– researching and analyzing information;
– questioning the impact of the human footprint on nature;
– producing and exchanging materials related to the topic;
– implementing school practices to fight environmental problems.
- To enhance the use of ICT tools and collaborative work skills between teachers and students.
- To create useful digital products that lead towards an ecological spirit and sustainability at schools and society.
- To foster tolerance and democratic values by engaging in discussions and voting.
- Teach students about ecological sustainability, environmental health and nutrition; meet science and social studies standards, integrate environmental education into curricula, and support students to become leaders in making their own healthier and more ecologically friendly schools.
- Build awareness about broad ecological issues and development practices.
- All partners disseminate the project in the school communities and websites to reach a wider audience.
METHODOLOGY AND PEDAGOGICAL APPROACHES
- In order to have a long-term, sustainable, positive impact on the health and environmental conditions of the schools and the community, we will focus on the development of 21st-century life skills through case presentation and demonstration.
- All activities will encourage collaboration and communication skills by using a variety of digital tools. First, all partner schools will be advised to apply: Adblockers so that they work in a safe digital environment.
- Second, we will integrate ICT, English, Sciences, Biology, and Citizenship along with Environmental Education programs with the help of pedagogical approaches such as CLIL(Content and language integrated learning is an approach for learning content through an additional language, thus teaching both the subject and the language),
Project Based Learning, Task-based Learning, Place-based learning, Problem-based learning, Action competence learning, Socio-scientific Inquiry-based learning, Collaborative Approach(jigsaw), Reflective and Game-based learning.
